Cozumel???

I will certainly be jealous of you studs and studetts opening your wallets and purses to hit Ironman Cozumel next Thanksgiving. "Back in the day" I would say, "of course!" and hit the registration button along with you, logistics be damned. But this year...

  • Flight to Cozumel: $717 (each)

  • 4.5 star hotel: $100+ per night

  • Bike transport: ??$200??

  • Doing and Ironman on an Island with all your creepy Internet friends: Priceless.

One thing I noticed that really is a no-go in my book - a one-lap ocean swim with no wetsuit. Last time I swam 2.4 miles at Clearwater Beach for the Hurricane Man with no mid-point break and no wetsuit, I was rubbed raw in my armpits. Granted, I could have used more body glide...but my distain for ocean water in my mouth is well documented. I'll take the toxins in Tempe Town Lake over salt water any day and twice on Sunday.

Sorry, I'll be staying stateside for a while, and keeping my eye on IMAZ09...

Hey buddy- You should check out Cancun 70.3 next year in late september. All inclusuive resorts are 700 bucks per person INCLUDING airfare and ALL DRINKS are also included. These are 5 star hotels as well.

You should check it out. It would be right after IMWI for me so it's a no no. Might think about taking the wife there for our 20th Anniversary which is that weekend too. Be cool to be able to go and watch someone I know race it.

700 all inclusive is a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Its a tempting destination, tie it in with a 2 week holiday then very attractive rather than just a destination for IM (certainly nicer the Panama City Beach). However I plan on taking next year off from IM, 2 IMs in 2 years and my motivation is dropping.

I've got Mexico 4 hours from here and kinda feel the same way about the salt water, sting rays... blah blah...

Anyhoo... I've got something else brewing for next year ;-) It involves lots of hills!!! hee hee

You probably should have listed box of imodium advanced among your list of expenses! Montezuma's Revenge during an IM - carbo unloading indeed.

I have no desire to go to Mexico ever again after a good bout with Monty. I'm holding out for Kona. It's like a local race for me anyway.

Out of ALL the reasons you could have chosen (sting Rays, sharks, waves bashing you over coral reefs, jelly fish, Montezuma's revenge, etc...) you pick the SALT in the water..

BigUn... I'm disappointed. Man Up. :-)

Thank you Big Un and everyone else for those very sobering thoughts. I guess Greyhound will have to have an umbrella drink for each of us. At least he won't be sore!

Shelley and Rob have it all figured out.

Maybe I can supplement my expenses in Cozymel by "selling my wares" to hot drunk single American women yearning for a little attention. I am sure I can find a couple of hours to fit in a little race.

I saw this race and admit I thought about it for a second but i promised my family no ironman in 09 :( Gotta get the first one done before I can even think about a second anyway.

When I saw the announcement, I thought "wow", but I think I might just prefer to go there for vacation.

I can't afford it, either. The Redneck Riveria is going to cost enough. Maybe by 2010...

Uhhhhh....did google give me the right map? Is Cozumel right by or in Juarez? If so, count me out. Out, out, out.

PS: I read a review of someone who did Cancun recently. it was, apparently, quite a nightmare.

I agree whole heartedly. Here's a hint for those doing any races in Mexico.
Everyone knows not to drink the water. Also beware of margaritas or anything
else made with ice. The ice they use is made from the localwater. I know first
hand it will be a mistake that anyone will pay for for months.
