Iron Week 21 - Peer Pressure

Oh...you guyz....you guys! I needed to bike on Sunday. It was 57 degrees. 3 below my "don't bike below 60" rule. Since the sun wasn't up yet, I figured it would warm up, and I was tired of everyone thinking I was such a big baby. Well I am a big baby, and should have stayed that way.

It never warmed up above 58. One lousy degree. Remember, I don't have toe warmers, leggings or some nifty hat that fits under my helmet. This is Florida. We don't need stuff like that here. Right. After 50 miles, I could not feel my toes anymore, and my body objected my riding decision so badly that it gave me this nasty cold/flu - thanks guys and gals - last night was NOT pretty!

So Iron Week 21 is dedicated to you - my bloggie peeps - this wonderful concept called peer pressure. HA! It's the same pressure we've come to rely on to get us out the door when we don't feel like training. It's the same comments and support we get for good workouts or races. It's the good natured ribbing and smack talking that keeps the competitive juices alive in each of us. I can't believe I'm going to write this....thanks for 4 trips to the bathroom last night! Sincerely. From the bottom of my heart, which, by the way, I think I flushed at 3am.

For your enjoyment, we took some video of the Fishhawk 10k:

Kind of a light week last week. Horrible swim - one time, 1500 meters. Just couldn't get into the pool last week, for whatever reason. Bike - not too shabby; two 50 milers and a 24 miler. All very "base". Lots of wind. The run - well, the Bigun PR'd this week at the 10k distance with a 50:08 - and just had that one other run of 11.6 that was preempted with a bathroom stop. Story of my life. 10.66 hrs of training total, with one week left in this base cycle. Feeling like I do now, it's hard to imagine that I'll get any quality training in - it's supposed to be a swim/bike week, tapering the run for the marathon in 2 weeks. We'll see.

Way to tough it out. I can't wait to ride in 58 above zero. It is 28 below zero windchill here right now.

Hope you are feeling better!
Lesson learned? (Maybe)
Train to your own plan and don't worry about what "everyone else" is doing!

I would give my left...well we'll just leave it at that...to have 58 degree weather. You spoiled Bigun you.

I want to move to Fla after reading that. You did it, that's what is to be remembered.

I'm so sorry to here about your illness after being subjected to such harsh training conditions. You know that we, or maybe it is just me. Tease you because there might be a little jealousy of your weather. So you pick your head up little/Big Trooper and stand proud of your god like weather.
~Thumbs Up~ Buddy.

Dude, you know all that cold weather gear you list is actually for COLD weather, right? 58 is totally shorts and shirt weather.

Sorry to hear you got sick though, feel better.

peer pressure or hand grenades. You decide. you just had an election there.

hand grenades are so underutilized in society.

Hmmm, sounds like wuss time. It was -15 air temp, today. Wind chills were -45 when I was out shoveling snow. Forget toe warmers, I had two sets of gloves on.

Dude - Get with the program....triathlon is an outdoor sport. You've got to suffer in training so you can punish the other Clydesdales at CDA ;^)

Thanks for taking care of GEL at the 10k.

I have a bone to pick with you and Tac Boy.

Talking about pop-tarts on your last podcast about killed me.

I'm sitting on my bike, 2 hour ride, trying to focus. When all of sudden, after all that talk, all I can think about is eating a pop-tart.

It all went downhill from there :)

Dude, I'm going to drive for 5 hours tommorrow so I can ride in the balmy 41 degree weather in southern Utah. That's like twice as hot as O-town. Or, half as cold. Your choice.

Sorry to hear you're sick again. Maybe it's worthwhile to just go ahead and get some leg warmers, gloves, toesies, etc., for the few days of "winter" we do usually get each year in central FL? Either that or ignore the smack.

Nice job getting all that done on the bike though. I can't wait to get out and ride. I am in need of some long bike time to get me ready for the season. Gonna have to cowgirl up and get on the trainer a little more.

Loved the most recent podcast. I also am Fig Newton person during rides, unfortunately, gels make me gag!

Oh, My, Gawd. How can you NOT want to just crawl away in shame after saying something like that?
